Joe McElderry has revealed that he would like to bulk up before the release of his debut album later this year, following advice from his X Factor mentor Cheryl Cole.

Joe is quoted by Heat magazine as saying: ‘”Cheryl tells me I need to eat more. She says I’m too skinny – everyone does. I lost weight on the show. You’re working so hard and you can’t put in what you take out. It’s the adrenaline.

“I need to bulk up. And I’d like to get a brace and get my teeth sorted out.”

Joe McElderry returned to the UK today after his New Years holiday in Austria. He revealed on Twitter this morning that he was coming home after his week-long skiing trip, which he spent with his family.

Joe McElderry was unveiled as the final Number One for 2009 and the decade on Top Of The Pops today. Joe sang ‘The Climb’ live and brought Top Of The Pops to a close. As he finished the song, Joe wished everyone a Happy New Year.

Joe McElderry remained at the top of the charts for a 3rd straight week in Ireland. His hit single ‘ The Climb ‘ has seen off all competition in Ireland over the Christmas period. Joe is currently sitting at Number 1 in the UK and Ireland and has sold in excess of 700,000 copies. He is on a break in Austria recovering from both the X Factor and promoting his single leading up to Christmas.

Joe McElderry has an outside chance of becoming the top selling single of 2009 with his debut release ‘The Climb’ reports Musicweek. Joe needs to sell upwards of 221,000 singles between Monday of this week and this coming Sunday. Sales are expected to be good this week with people using vouchers received as Christmas Presents.

The Climb is the 14th Number 1 attained by an X Factor act and looks set to become one of the biggest sellers in history from the TV Series. Joe McElderry has Lady Gaga’s Poker Face to beat if he is to claim the number 1 title as the most sold single of 2009.
