Journey have revealed they refused to let the X Factor winner record their hit single ‘Don’t Stop Believin’.

Despite eventual winner Joe McElderry covering the song numerous times on the show, Journey guitarist Neal Schon revealed they didn’t like Simon Cowell’s new arrangement of the song.

Schon told The Sun: “We knew about Joe’s song because Simon had contacted our management as he wanted to re-do the song with a different kind of arrangement,” he said. “We listened to it and we declined. We said there was nothing wrong with the original version. If it’s not busted, let’s not fix it.”

He added: “My buddy Randy Jackson, who was on American Idol in the US with Simon, was stressing the fact that we should really let him do the new version because it would probably go to number one. But we stuck to our decision and now the song is doing as well as it is.”

However, the band stressed there were no hard feelings toward Joe.

“I wish Joe all the best,” keyboard player Jonathan Cain said. “Maybe he will play with us when we come to Britain.”

Joe McElderry has revealed he is eager to work with Ryan Tedder on his debut album, reports Digital Spy.

Tedder has written and produced hit records for artists such as Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks.

“I would love Simon [Cowell] to put me with Ryan Tedder for my album’s ballads because he is an amazing songwriter,” McElderry told the Daily Star.

“There are meetings about it now. The plan is for my album to come out after the tour. It’s going to be similar to what they’ve done for the past couple of years so it gives you time to do it,” he said.

Sounds pretty good to me!
