He did sing live, of course, but the background tape with his voice was very loud as well.

But he sung it perfectly and it was a great great performance!

Thanks for posting Platinumrecord.  I was there and I can say Joe was singing live, he had a backing track for the chorus, but he was still singing over the backing track.
