PRINCESSES Beatrice and Eugenie joined their mum yesterday to open a new teenage cancer unit.

The Duchess of York and her daughters led the event alongside The Who singer Roger Daltrey, 66, and X Factor winner Joe McElderry, 18.

The £1.7million unit in Newcastle replaces one the Duchess, a patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, opened in 1998.

The unit was designed with teenagers firmly in mind and includes a recreation room, kitchen, study, parents’ room, complementary therapy area and chill-out zone plus internet access, TV and music.

The Duchess, 50, said: “As a parent to two young and fortunately healthy girls, this charity has a particular place in my heart.”

Princess Beatrice, 21, is studying at Goldsmiths College in London while her sister, 20, is at Newcastle University, close to the new unit at the Great North Children’s Hospital.
