Do you think children should be allowed a shot at fame? Is it too manipulative, and think that children are too immature to know what they are letting themselves in for?  On the other hand, there are children who know 100% what they want - do they not deserve a shot at it if they want to?

I have an album by an 8 year old - here she is:

Jackie Evancho - O Mio Babbino Caro age 8

She has already been on stage with David Foster!, and Connie Talbot released an album at just seven years old, too.

I have come across this subject plenty of times and the debate has never been conclusive yet.

Shocked  That girl is unbelievable.. How can a sweet little girl have such a 'big' voice? its amazing!

On topic.. I am dual at this.. I think children need to be children and are not built for the extreme pressure they will get when performing and getting famous... BUT I do  also think that if children like to do these things..and there is no pressure from parents and stuff.. well why not Smiley  and i admit I love to see such great talents as this girl  Cool

I really think it depends on the child (or adult if it comes to that - I mean look what happened to Susan Boyle) . Also, they need guidance and someone to step in if there is too much pressure. Essentially if they are cared about, supervised and treated with respect, I don't see why there has to be a problem. I would question if the format of something like BGT is appropriate however.

I agree with Sweetie, it depends on the child.  There have been many talented kids on BGT for example, I think some can handle the pressure and some can't, but like you say it can be the same for adults.  Grin

I think children should be encouraged to follow their dreams, although I don't like pushy parents.  Smiley

Not that many 4 year olds that wouldn't enjoy taking their hands to a bit of drumming - just wouldn't all be as good.  Smiley
