X Factor stars return to Tyneside for Metro Radio Arena show

Mar 28 2010 by Sunday Sun

X FACTOR fever returned to Tyneside as the hit TV show went live. Fans flocked to Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena yesterday for two stage shows.

South Shields lad and X Factor winner Joe McElderry arrived in a taxi for the matinee as thousands swamped the venue with banners and T-shirts in honour of their favourite acts.

Little Jake McKinstray, who loves tuneful twins John and Edward ‘Jedward’ Grimes, had painted a poster especially for the show.

The five-year-old was with his mum Charlene, 26, and her sister Courtney Dodds, aged 10.
Charlene, from Hartlepool, Teesside, said: “We all loved the show and couldn’t miss the chance to see all the singers again.

“It’s great that the shows are being put on, for people who can’t wait until next year’s TV programme.”

Friends Samantha Reeson, 25, Ian Townley, 43, and Laura Cook, all from Middlesbrough, queued in style in their pink rabbit ears.

Laura, 19, a customer services worker, said: “We all love Joe, he’s fantastic. We desperately want to meet him.

The X Factor tour has become an annual event on the Arena schedule.

There has been phenomenal interest this year because of Joe, who sang to victory in the contest in November last year after wowing judges, including Simon Cowell.

The 18-year-old former Newcastle College student will now be hoping for a new chart-topper as he works on his debut album.

Yes, but I'd like to see a bit more of it outside Tyneside though. Thanks for posting
