PRESS REVIEW:
X Factor Live, SECC, Glasgow
Published on 9 Mar 2010
X Factor Live showcases the eight most popular finalists from the latest series of the TV competition in a pop concert.
And it was all well presented with a live band, more than a dozen dancers and dazzling pyrotechnics.
Series heart-throb Lloyd Daniels kicked off the action. Sadly his performance of Cry Me A River would probably have been dubbed “forgettable” by Simon Cowell.
Thankfully the next singer, Jamie Archer, would have won the judges’ approval after luring the audience to their feet with his energetic rendition of Sex On Fire.
However, the act everyone wanted to see was John and Edward Grimes – better known as Jedward.
And they were truly horrific.
They can’t sing. They can’t dance. I couldn’t even make out what they were saying. But they certainly are entertaining.
Their rendition of the Ghostbusters theme saw them fly across the arena, much to the excitement of the screaming audience below.
And according to Carol Smillie, who was in the row behind me, their sweat was dripping off them on to the crowd as they spun through the air – you don’t get that on the telly.
Jedward’s antics could have overshadowed the other performers, but thankfully true talent shone through.
Olly Murs’s energetic Twist And Shout was brilliant, Stacey Soloman’s voice is much better than on television and Danyl Johnson and Lucie Jones also impressed.
Finally, X Factor winner Joe McElderry showed off his strong voice and cute dimples with a string of songs proving himself worthy of the crown.
The only weak point was host Jeff Brazier, ex-partner of the late Jade Goody. He’s certainly no Dermot.
X Factor live returns to the SECC tonight and is back in April.
