Has Gordon Brown Been A good Prime Minister?
« on: February 27, 2010, 10:30:09 PM »

Has Gordon Brown been a good Prime Minister during his time of office or was Tony Blair better - maybe neither?  Who do you think will win the next election and will we ever get out of the current economic crisis all countries are in at the moment?

We have long insisted that the occupant of No 10 be firm, decisive and courageous. Brown was pilloried mercilessly when he "bottled" that phantom election in 2007. But, it's now clear, we also want someone gentle, polite and emotionally intelligent. We insist those at the top maintain the dignity of their office (a past Labour leader was ridiculed for wearing the wrong kind of coat at the Cenotaph) but one who can also exchange banter like a regular guy, so Brown, in his attempt at this, readily chuckled along chummily as Piers Morgan asked whether he was a "plonker".

Blair's biggest mistake was going into Iraq whilst privately advised and aware that Hussein did not have any usable weapons of mass destruction.  Britain committed 45,000 troups to that war - the outcome, as we all know, provoked huge protests and divisions within his own Party and joe public was deceived about the justitication for invasion.

We need a prime minister who is simultaneously steel-willed and flexible, statesman-like and a good person.  The job requires the energy of Gladstone, the flair of Disraeli, the balls of Lloyd George, the administrative gifts of Attlee, the style of Macmillan and the sleeping patterns of Thatcher, unfortunately human beings don't come like that!

The next  Prime Minister?  It's not an easy choice by any means and I cannot see any of the present eligible 'bunch' stepping up to the mark to be perfectly honest and it's more than just a little disconcerting!

You need Blair back!  Grin

In our country Blair is seen as the Clinton of the UK and he is forgiven for his mistakes...Mr Brown has a rather stuffy image and is not seen as a good prime minister.

I think if I could vote and from the debate from tonight, I would vote for Nick Clegg. He was the only one who seemed down to earth and know what he wants to do.
