X FACTOR winner Joe McElderry has told how he's terrified of falling into the crowd from his harness after a series of mishaps on the live tour.

 
He revealed his fear as TV Biz was given exclusive backstage access to the show at the weekend.

Joe has already suffered a broken microphone, fallen down a flight of stairs and got stuck off stage behind a screen - like Robbie Williams did on the TV show.

Now the pint-sized Geordie star, 18, is convinced his flying stunt will go wrong.

He told TV Biz: "It's much harder singing while flying because the harness presses on your stomach.

"And just before we start I'm always checking the harness because that would be the worst - to just drop into the audience!"

The X Factor stars have so far performed in three cities on their 40-date UK tour.

Joe said: "It is a bit tiring and I think it's just starting to catch up on everyone.

"But by next week we will be more used to the routines. My set has gone wrong every night this week.

"On the first night my microphone didn't work and I stood there in front of 12,000 people with no sound. I just thought my earphones weren't working.

"Then I went off stage, came back on, fell on the stairs and cut my leg. Then the screen didn't open. I am a bit clumsy.
 
"I dread coming on and saying the wrong name of which city we are in."

But the grounded pop newcomer handled the problems like a professional and said he takes nothing for granted - knowing success is not guaranteed.

Excited Joe added: "It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of an arena tour. I know it might never come again."

Awwwww! I never heard about him falling down the stairs! Bless him! I suppose that one was just because he's clumsy, but the other mishaps are down to the backstage team, and they are unforgivable, and it seems really unfair that they had to happen to Joe!

I agree Becca, these technical errors shouldn't be happening, and why do they keep happening to Joe.

No-one has mentioned him falling down the stairs either, so I wonder whether it was on one of the live shows.

Haha I always thought of him falling off it at one point.

Why the 'haha'?  It could break his neck

As Joe has said himself, being strapped into a harness, amongst other things, restricts his breathing and yet he is still expected to sing whilst 'strung up'. It proves how great he really is to be able to do this.  It's a completely ridiculous situation in my opinion.   I know it's obviously a great thrill for the audiences to have him flying over them but I must say I do have certain reservations about it.  When all is said and done, I really think Joe has been extremely brave to even contemplate 'flying' in the first place although in the long run may not have had much choice as these decisions are mainly out of his control.

I sincerely hope there will be no further mishaps in any direction and in particular the harness saga! 

From past experience these XFactor tours generally always have technical problems simply because they are rushed, constantly moving on from one destination to another, never having time to do anything properly.  The sets are complicated and it only takes one technician (however well qualified) to make a mistake and it's a disaster waiting to happen!  The producers should think more about the artists and not profitability for themselves!  I am praying nothing happens to 'Our Hero' . . .

You would have to have very strong arms Becca - but I'm sure you would manage it for Joe

Haha, don't worry I'm strong, and I would definately have the strength to save Joe as would the 300 people on the floor seats, I'm sure. Not too sure about Jedward though

Maybe JEDWARD are sabourtaging joes kit before he comes on srage !! LoL. I feel really sorry for joe but I'm sure he's doing fine on the tour! I don't know what he means by 'he may not get another chance to fo a tour again' that's totally wrong. - of course he will do another tour he's absolutely great and has a massive fan base. He will be around for a long time yet.

well i do think it is slightly silly making Joe fly if it affects his breathing, because obviously it will be making it more difficult for him to sing. I think people like Jedward need all these sort of gimmicks to take the attention away from their appalling vocals, but I don't think that it is necerssary for Joe. He has an amazing voice and doesn't need to fly above the audience, especially if it is uncomfortable and scary for him. But I suppose they do that kind of thing on tours to make it more exciting for the audience and I think Joe has coped very well with it so far and has given exceptional performances as always

I knew this would happen i never thought flying was a good idea he should just fly in and land on the stage its silly having to sing like that

and how do you get stuck back stage ?

It's amazing that he has been able to sing with the harness on. I've had one on before for rock climbing and stuff and they are really tight. All the videos I've seen of him singing the climax note of the climb with the harness on, have been note perfect, he's just so incredible, it's unbelievable!

Connor, there are doors at the back of the stage (like on the x factor live shows) that some of the contestants will come through to begin a song. I think Joe comes through after going off stage to take the harness off, and apparently it wouldn't open, like it did to Robbie.

These sort of shows are simply too much to do in too little time.

I am very proud that Joe is singing like an angel while flying.. I will tell you..that is really really difficult!

I am a bit worried though..with all that technical stuff going on..it could be quite dangerous!
