X FACTOR champ Joe McElderry is making a stunning return to the pop front line at the National TV Awards next week.

The newly-crowned pop idol is ditching his tedious ballad The Climb - no offence Joe! - and singing Don't Stop Believin' instead.

Simon Cowell has picked the song for his new protégé to kick off the NTAs.

We told how the song by ancient rockers Journey was Simon's second choice for the winner's song.

It lost out to Hannah Montana song The Climb, which was then forced off the Christmas number one spot by Rage Against The Machine.

TV Biz always, er, believed Don't Stop would have trounced Rage's campaign if Joe had released it because the song is fast becoming a modern classic.

Now Simon has caught on and is planning to make it Joe's second single later this year.

A Facebook campaign (of course) is already gathering steam, calling for him to make it happen.

Six thousand fans have signed up urging Si's record label Syco to put the song out.

Joe has already had success with it. He sang it on the X Factor and it shot back into the charts.

Two other versions of the song are in the current chart thanks to it being used on the new cult E4 show Glee on Monday night.

Joe is the second X Factor star to sign up to the NTAs. Jedward are also performing alongside '90s rapper Vanilla Ice.

WOW that is exciting news!  And I agree with Steph... Don't stop believing is Joe's song. he owns it, smashes it and the song is just perfect for him.

For new material/songs we will just have to wait until october, so in the mean time... this song would be perfect!

I don't think releasing another cover for his second single is a good idea at all. When you want to become an established artist, we want to hear Joe McElderry, not Joe McElderry singing a song already done by Journey. It was one of my favourite performances from him on the X Factor, but he needs to start stepping away from that, we know the music he can sing (which is practically anything) so I think releasing a song that can be likened to the upbeat Don't Stop Believin, would be better than almost cheating and just releasing a song you already have sung twice on the X Factor. Most of us have his version on our phones and ipod's now anyway, it's time to hear something new from him. X x

Obviously it's going to take months to write a good original song for him, so if he releases DSB in the meantime, it will keep his fans satisfied, while waiting for new material. I hope that is the plan anyway. I reckon he'll release it in about March to coincide with the end of the X Factor tour. That would make sense. If he releases it in October as his second single, people will jump on his back.

Wow, can't wait for the NTA and to see our Joe perform again.
I think it would be a brilliant idea for DSB to be a single, it would keep fans satified in the run up to the album.
Obviously, Joe will be singing original material for the album, but if DSB is released as a single, it would be fab.
He has made the song his own, and the cast of Glee performance is nowhere near as good as his and his rendition, is the reason the origianl by Journey is back in the charts.
Go Mr. Cowell, please release this.

I can't wait to see him again, Saturdays are so dull without him.  I am glad he is doing Don't Stop Believing, he owns the song and it is perfect for him.  I love "The Climb" but I do agree it is good for him to sing something a bit more upbeat.  Of course he will have original songs on the album but at least this provides me with a Joe "fix" until it is released.   Just got tickets for the Birmingham concert.   Last week there were none free near the stage but today there were . . . heaven!

I'm very unsure about Don't Stop Believin' being released as a Joe single now. If he'd released it before Christmas he'd have been number 1 for weeks. But now Journey have been in the top 5 with the song for 4 weeks and Glee have just released their version. The charts really don't need 3 very similar versions of the same song all at the same time!

The only way I can see DSB working well as a single is if they do it as a double A side and have an original upbeat song released with it. That way people would buy the single because they love DSB and the new material would push the sales way up it would encourage more people to buy it even if they already own one or both of the other versions of DSB.

 If they release DSB as a stand alone single I'm concerned the sales figures will be disappointing.

Ahhh Simon is being a FOOL, A FOOL I TELL YOU. (sorry im in a silly mood  ) Whilst i LOVE Joe's version of that song, like most other people have said theres ALREADY 2 versions of it in the charts, it makes no sense whatsoever!!! Plus its also a cover, people are going to be questioning if/when joe is going to release original music!! I already have Joe's live final version of it, on my Ipod and im quite happy with it staying like that A studio version would be good-on his album!! The only thing i liked about this story and why i posted it was cause i was REALLY EXCITED about his NTA appearance   its going to be amazinggg!! But yeah NO to DSB being the next single!! xxx
